James writes in James 1: 2-3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” James is telling us to consider our trials as pure joy, but isn't that exactly opposite of what we do. I can't imagine getting in a fender bender, or going through a breakup and being happy about it. So what exactly does James mean by this verse.

Let's look at the bigger picture. I don't care who you are we all faces trails in our lives. Some miner like being late to work, and some major like the loss of a loved one. Obviously he isn't telling us to be happy about having these events happen to us.
James understands that in life we will come across all kinds of miss fortune, but if we can keep God at the center of our lives during the hard times. Imagine our relationship with God during the easy times. If we learn to trust in God during our major problem It will be easier to trust him during the minor ones. If we can keep God the center during our worst trails than any other adversity will be easy.
So let's not be happy we go through adversity, but be happy we have the opportunity to keep God the center of our lives through whatever adversity we go through.Though it might be hard these are the opportunities we have to strengthen our relationship with God.
